Biography[]
Quinn's father was a Cog in the Armadillo Territory, being generally meek and caring towards his son, keeping his head down and teaching Quinn to do the same. Quinn disliked their role in society, questioning why his father was so weak and complacent with his place in society. His father explained that the Cogs are meerely a part of the system, and that the Barons and their Clippers put their lives on the line protecting them and therefore should be in control, meaning the two of them can't change their place. Quinn hated this, saying he didn't ask to be the son of a lowly Cog. One day while the two of them are harvesting in the fields, Quinn steals an ear of corn and is caught by Corro, a sadistic Clipper that oversees the Cogs in the fields. Quinn's father steps in and takes responsibility for his son, and while Corro does seem to know this is a lie, he proceeds to drag Quinn's father to a nearby tree and beat him to death in front of Quinn. This has a profound effect on Quinn, not just because he saw his father die, but also because his father made no attempt to fight back.
