The Meridian Chamber is a machine in the Outlands that was built by the creators of Azra and draws dark chi energy from the Earth in order to either grant or revoke the Gift, thus creating Dark Ones. The machine was abandoned for years following the collapse of the old world before it was rediscovered by Pilgrim.
History[]
The Meridian Chamber was built by the people of Azra in the old world around 500 years prior to the events of the series. It allowed them to draw dark chi energy from the Earth and transfer it into humans, allowing them to become Dark Ones. Through unknown means, this led to a cataclysmic event that destroyed the old world and led to the Meridian Chamber being lost.
500 years later and Pilgrim, one of the lost children of Azra acquired an army of followers and eventually tracked down the Meridian Chamber and unlocked it, desiring to give the Gift to all of his followers. After meeting with Sunny, an extremely powerful Gift user that had it locked inside him, they were able to turn the Meridian Chamber on together and transfer the Gift from Sunny's infant son Henry over to Pilgrim, saving the infants life but making Pilgrim extremely powerful.
The Meridian Chamber was damaged severely by Sunny after he turned against Pilgrim, but he was stopped by M.K. from completely destroying it. The Meridian Chamber was repaired by Pilgrim's mechanics but it was eventually blown up by The Widow, Tilda, and Gaius Chau after they killed M.K. and left his body inside. In the ruins of the Meridian Chamber, Eli discovered a working firearm.
